What this mentoring module covers and what it does not cover

WHAT THE MENTORING MODULE COVERS

Covers all career related & work related questions which can be asked to the mentor - excluding those relating to mental health. This is because the Mentors on board each know their own work and career but are not necessarily experienced in human psychology or in dealing with mental health issues. For any mental health related issues please contact Life Line or the Apprenticeship Support Network existing within each TAFE. If you need assistance towards a contact point in any TAFE to the Apprenticeship Support Network please feel free to email info@electricianXchange.com and we will be happy to point you in the right direction. 

Examples of questions which can be asked are:

  • What's it like to work within this field?
  • My top strengths are -------. Will the work you do or have done and which I'm inquiring about allow me to use these strengths regularly? 
  • What are the type of hours I'd expect to be doing in a role like this?
  • What sort of hourly rate/ annual salary can I expect to get - as an apprentice or as someone who qualified as a Licensed Electrician or as someone with 3-5 years of experience and say beyond?
  • What are the pros & cons of working in this area?
  • How can I expect apprentices to be treated?
  • How are females generally treated within the field you are in or have worked within?
  • How would you encounter a stated career related issue I have (please note no technical questions can be answered within the Mentoring chats. That's not the intent of the Mentoring within electricianXchange)

WHAT THE MENTORING MODULE DOES NOT COVER

  • Asking for a job or personal favours of any type. Anyone doing this will be unsubscribed. As an FYI all chats are monitored for probity purposes.
  • Asking for referrals to jobseekers for your own business
  • Harassing the mentor after they have said they cannot help you with the question you've asked. Remember this is a voluntary service the Mentors are providing
  • Any discussion around religion, politics, that which is discriminatory or a sexual reference or inuendo
  • A help line is established for Mentors & Mentees. Any Mentor/Mentee not respecting this boundaries set will be unsubscribed. Please either call 1300353364 or email raypavri@electricianxchange.com.
